Aristoberry, through its gallery and this books site, provides information about Australian avant-garde visual arts, artists, their lives and their work.
Avant-garde art has been present in Australia for generations - the art that is distinct, occasionally shocking and rejected by the mainstream of the Australian culture. Australian avant-garde artists commonly stand at the forefront of the new trends, sometimes they struggle against the waves of the artistic currents, and always they push the envelope of public acceptability. Frequently, the work of these artists is first heralded at the international forums, well before it is recognised back home. Many of the avant-garde artists eventually become part of the Australian mainstream, while others remain true to their rebellious convictions and stay appreciated within the small circles of art admirers. Unfortunately, the avant-garde art is often locked in private collections, dispersed across small galleries, and ultimately lost to the future generations of Australians. This online gallery aims to capture, preserve and support the Australian avant-garde art - that of the past, present and future.
Aristoberry Gallery and the associated Aristoberry Books have been created to promote Australian avant-garde artists, recognise their talent and present their work to the general public.
Who we are
The gallery is run by volunteers, who strive to provide the highest level of quality of the presented pictures, biographies and technology to give you - the art consumer - the experience comparable to walking into a real art gallery and enjoying viewing the presented art work.
Contributors to the Avant-Garde Gallery and its Wiki include photographers and media producers, art reviewers, journalists and graphic designers. A number of technical people responsible for the maintenance of web pages, wikis and gallery software are considered contributors to this body of work as well.
